I've added an explanatory note to smith.html, the page on the
Smith chart, as to why a whole circuit of the Smith chart
represents a movement of the reference plane away from the
load by only half a wavelength. Some people have been having
trouble seeing this...

I have revised the syllabus for the Microwave Option in 1997,
and added Dr Lucyszyn's part. You can find it on

the 9697 exam paper, for just the questions which I set.
I have also added some general observations on the answers
which you wrote.

There are some notes on Antennas added
18/11/96. Solns to last year's
exam paper, DJJ's part (5 of the 8
questions) have now been constructed. I reworked the paper for
these solutions, without reference to the previous record.
If you can suggest improvements or if you

14/11/96. Corrections to the solution to Qn 3 in Problems 2
have been made. Hopefully it is all OK now. Thanks to the
person who pointed this out to me.
13/11/96. I have put three copies of a training video produced by the
British Ministry of Defence in 1956 into the UoS library. The quality
of the copies is not that good, but Stepan Lucyszyn says he found it a
very useful aid to visualising wave motion in waveguide. The
animated graphics are helpful. You can check out one of these
for use in the Library in the Audio Visual room. Ask at the
Information desk. The title is "Microwave video".
